Wretched of San Juan are sick
Relatives of the 11 sentenced to just 10 and 26 years in prison, Rivas demanded the judge to expedite the appeal process because they claim that the convictions for laundering, drug trafficking and organized crime are unfair.
They do it because the process of first instance oddly lasted a year and was riddled with anomalies.
Family members say that several of the detainees are sick. One is Paulina Monge, who suffers from terminal stage cancer. So is Second Ponce Rufino and American Jason Puracal, who was burned with boiling water. Relatives of the detainees insist that it was a setup, it showed no crimes for which they were sentenced. "There is no corpus delicti," said Jairo Nunez, brother Roger Nunez, who in 2008 was a candidate in the municipal elections by Alternative for Change. They say he won, but was stolen, and was a strong candidate for the next election, so we took the game, they estimate.
